Sustainable Tourism Projects

Saasveld

Saasveld CampusAs part of our goal to implement a “Green Policy” we have identified Saasveld Campus in George on the Garden Route as an opportunity for the Fairfield Group to combine a corporate and social project with an environmental one.  Fairfield has undertaken to collaborate with the Department of Nature Conservation of Saasveld Campus (part of the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University) in order to develop competent and dedicated staff and students who are able to contribute to the sustainable development of the community through excellence in scholarship, research and community outreach.

Part of this project focuses on carbon offsets by means of tree planting, and it also provides for research on and protection of endangered bird species of the area.

Baphumele Centre

Baphumele Respite CentreAs part of our corporate social responsibility programme, Fairfield Group, in conjunction with the Irish Woodberry Woodpeckers, has facilitated and overseen the construction and furnishing of the Baphumele Respite Centre in Khayelitsha, Cape Town.  The centre cares for children and young adults affected with HIV Aids and other related diseases. Many of the children have been abandoned by their families and communities.

Founded by Rosie Mashale, in the late 80’s, the centre was run originally from her home. Today, thanks to the commitment and determination of Rosie and her supporters, Baphumele has become a thriving community project.  Our hope is that we are able to continue to contribute to the upkeep and care of the centre, and to encourage our clients to become actively involved.

Young Ideas Sport Acadamey

Young Ideas Sport AcademyThe Fairfield Group has undertaken to support the Young Ideas Sport Academy in reaching their dreams.  The objective of the Young Ideas Academy is to provide and promote sport participation to all young sport men and women from disadvantaged communities, in an attempt to identify and develop sport excellence.

Fairfield Group undertakes to assist with developing the necessary infrastructure that will enable the Academy to provide coaching and mentoring programmes, as well as to invite participation in volunteer management programmes and life skills training from the proposed facilities in Langa township.

The hope is that this model will be rolled out to other communities to ensure that young talent receives the opportunity to develop and eventually become advocates for their communities.
